Are you qualified?

You must be 15 years old to become a lifeguard. You must also be able to:

1. Swim 100 yards continuously using the front crawl (freestyle), breaststroke or a combination of both.

2. Tread water for one minute without using your arms.

3. Perform a feet-first surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound brick from the depth at which you will be certified and return to surface

Training Courses

This training program is for first year lifeguards or individuals who hold an expired lifeguard training certification.

  • Part 1: StarGuard ELITE Online Learning (~3 hours) (MUST be completed prior to in-person training)
  • Part 2: In-Person Training

Includes: Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid Certification, Training Materials, Rescue Pack, CPR Mask, Whistle, Swimsuit, and a T-Shirt or Tank Top.
Limited Space Available: Only registered employees will be guaranteed a seat in class.
A $35 NON-REFUNDABLE class registration fee.
**A $25 RESCHEDULING fee will be charged if you are unable to attend class and do not provide 48 hours notice.

This training orientation is mandatory for all newly hired DRD employees. This is a one-time, self-paced, online course which can be found on our LearnUpon portal. All employees will receive an invitation email from LearnUpon to create their account and complete the course.

There is no cost for this course.

This class is for prospective DRD lifeguards who would like to practice the pre-requisite swim skills required to attend and successfully complete a lifeguard certification course.

Terms & Conditions of Fees

  1. The participant must be a current DRD employee or DRD employee in the upcoming season.
  2. The participant agrees to work through Labor Day weekend or provide DRD Pools two weeks written notice of his/her termination of employment with DRD Pools.
  3. If the participant fails to meet the terms and conditions, they will be subject to the non-employee rate.
